Does Nigeria have the Political will to eliminate the Boko Haram Insurgency?

New York[RR] Abuja–According to Africa Business World Editorial, the question should be: Does Nigeria State have the political will to eliminate the Boko h Haram fundamentalists from her territory, Republic Reporters has learned.

ACWE said, ‘For nearly five years now, Boko Haram terrorists and thugs have killed innocent Nigerian citizens at will and burnt hundreds of buildings of worship and destroyed billions of dollars of individual property, and now have been emboldened to take hundreds of hostages with impunity. No one in Nigeria has any clues where Boko Haram operates from or where the group hides their hostages. The group now engages in the process of radicalizing and indoctrinating the hostages which Boko Haram turns around and trains some hostages and uses as suicide bombers. Despite the fact that the Boko Haram leader has little sophistication and often confuses issues and events of recent history, Abubakar Shekau has evaded capture from Nigeria Security forces with some ease.

“Africa Business world asks if Nigeria has the political will and resolve to eliminate Boko Haram? Between 1967 and 1970 Nigeria was engaged in a genocidal war against the Biafrans. Its leaders during that war utilized some of the worst and inhuman tactics to prosecute the war against the Breakaway Biafran group. Schools, Hospitals, Market places and Churches were deemed legitimate targets bombed by the hired mostly Egyptian and Arab Pilots. An air, land and sea embargo was imposed and some Nigeria military commanders in the battle front proudly said they shoot at anything that moves, men, women, children and animals. Starvation through deprivation of food relief from international agencies was used and defended as a legitimate weapon of war. These combined tactics led to genocide and death of millions of Biafran men, women and mostly children. In this day and age, one wonders how a small undisciplined group, Boko Haram has been able to inflict this much death and damage to Nigeria (over 5,000 Nigerians killed and billions of dollars lost) with impunity.

It added: “Boko Haram is carving out regions in North East Nigeria and they are also present in North West Cameroon and some areas of Chad. This is the same tactics used by ISIS in the Arabian Peninsula by carving out territories in Syria and Iraq which is being declared as an autonomous Islamic state with its own Caliphate. Yet due to a lack of political will and resolve in Nigeria, no one in Nigeria sees the Boko Haram challenge as a threat to Nigeria’s territorial integrity the same problem as the Biafran case of which Nigeria fought an inhuman and vicious war for nearly 3 years.

“Africa Business World abhors the rampant killing of Nigerian citizens both Muslims and Christians. We call on the Nigerian Government to employ more resources to go after Boko Haram and its collaborators, the attacks, killings rape, Kidnappings and Hostage taking by Boko Haram thugs is a violation of Fundamental Human Rights proclaimed and ratified by the Geneva Conventions, these are crimes against humanity. Nigeria and its defense and security apparatus must take the bull by the horn and go after Boko Haram not only to protect Nigeria’s territorial integrity but also to stop these crimes against humanity perpetuated by Boko Haram.
