Update: Kolanut Can Cure Fast Moving Ebola Virus –Prof. Maurice Iwu

New York[RR] St Louis, US–Prof. Maurice Iwu former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, has returned to his first field of profession, researching after his service at INEC, ended, Republic Reporters can affirmatively report. Not only did he return to researching but he said that currently virus Ebola troubling SSA particularly Liberia and Sierra Leone could be cured by Kolanut.

According to Iwu, ‘A plant has been found to halt the deadly Ebola virus in its tracks in laboratory tests, scientists have said.

BBC and other sources say ‘They used a compound from Garcinia kola, a plant commonly eaten in West Africa. Compounds from the plant have also proved effective against some strains of flu.

‘If the anti-Ebola compound proves successful in animal and human trials, it will be the first medicine to successfully treat the virus that causes Ebola haemorrhagic fever–an often-fatal condition. The discovery was announced at the 16th International Botanical Congress in St Louis in the US.

Paradigm reported that, ‘Four deaths per five cases: The Ebola virus was first documented in 1976 after an outbreak in Zaire–now the Democratic Republic of the Congo – where 88 per cent of the 318 human cases died. More recently, a 1995 outbreak in the same country had a death rate of 81% of the 315 infected.

‘There are four types of the virus – Ebola-Zaire, Ebola-Sudan and Ebola-Ivory Coast all affect humans, while Ebola-Reston has so far only affected monkeys and chimpanzees.

‘However, doctors have been unable to stop the virus once infection has taken hold – hence the disease has gained a terrifying reputation.

Dr. Maurice Iwu, tracing traditional origins, who set up and heads the Bioresources Development and Conservation Programme, led the research. It started 10 years ago when researchers were led to the plant by traditional native healers who have used the plant for the treatment of infectious diseases for centuries.

“This is a very exciting discovery,” said Dr. Iwu, who himself comes originally from a family of traditional healers.
“The same forest that yields the dreaded Ebola virus could be a source of the cure.”

But commentators are questioning the character of Prof. Maurice Iwu, who chaired one of the worst elections in Nigerian history.
Chrisubakson Nnaemeka, “Never to subscribe to his opinion in medicine as in real life everything about him is deceit. If he can boldly admit having severally deceived Nigeria in The Then Dr. Iwu INEC Laboratory where wrong results has produced thieves as leaders.”, how can any reasonable human being believe him, (embellishment Republic Reporters).

“The discovery of these important properties in a simple compound–flavonoids–was very surprising,” said Dr. Iwu.
“The structure of this compound lends itself to modification, so it provides a template for future work.
“Even if this particular drug does not succeed through the whole drug approval process, we can use it to construct a new drug for this deadly disease.”

In Washington,DC, credible source disclosed to Republic Reporters that Leaders from countries hit by Ebola outbreak have decided to pull out of President Barack Obama’s summit with African leaders in Washington next week, but White House told reporters that health crisis Ebola woon’t disrupt up-coming three-day gathering, sources say.

“We certainly understand the decision that was made by some of these African leaders to not participate,” White House spokesman Josh Earnest said. “They obviously have some very pressing items of business to handle in their own countries.”

‘Administration officials said the leaders of Liberia and Sierra Leone, two of the three main countries affected, had canceled their trip to Washington. It was unclear whether Guinean President Alpha Conte still planned to attend the conference.

Meanwhile, “U.S. health officials on Thursday warned Americans not to travel to Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, where the Ebola has killed more than 700 people this year. The current outbreak is the largest since the disease first emerged in Africa nearly 40 years ago.

“The Peace Corps recently announced that it is pulling more than 300 volunteers out of affected countries temporarily, and two Americans infected with Ebola are being evacuated out of West Africa to come to the United States.

“The outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus threatens to cast a shadow over a summit that the White House has billed a historic gathering of African leaders in the U.S. capital. Nearly 50 leaders were scheduled to attend the talks on boosting U.S. business investment in Africa, regional security and supporting the next generation of African leaders.

“Ben Rhodes, Obama’s deputy national security adviser, said the summit would focus on boosting Africa’s ability to address its own challenges and elevate U.S. engagement in the economically growing continent.

“We see enormous opportunities in Africa as it continues to advance its own economic development,” Rhodes said.

“The upcoming meeting of African leaders will come just two weeks after the president spoke to 500 young Africans visiting Washington as part of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI). In that speech, Mr. Obama said Africans should strive to “update and create new traditions,” particularly when it comes to the role of women in society.

‘First lady Michelle Obama also spoke at the YALI conference, telling the audience, “The blood of Africa runs through my veins.”

CBS, and AP, reported that,Beyond next week’s summit, the president plans to attend a U.S.-Africa business forum and host leaders for a dinner at the White House. Michelle Obama will also co-host a spousal program with Laura Bush, reprising an event they held together in Tanzania last summer. World health Organization, WHO said: Ebola is moving faster than control efforts. WHO added that Ebola crisis is casting shadow over Obama summit; 2 Americans infected with Ebola to be treated at Atlanta hospital.

Fighting chance–The virus multiplies rapidly in the human body and quickly overwhelms it, and in advanced cases the patient develops high fever and severe bleeding.

The Garcinia kola compound has been shown to halt multiplication of the virus in the laboratory. If repeated in humans, this would give the body a chance to fight off the virus.

The active compound is what is known as a dimeric flavonoid, which is two flavonoid molecules fused together.

Flavonoids are non-toxic and can be found in orange and lemon rinds as well as the colourings of other plants.

Drug hopes–The tests are in the early stages still, but the researchers hope that if they continue to prove successful the compound the US Food and Drug Administration will put it on a fast track – making a drug available to humans within a matter of years.

Obi Nwakanma has questions though. Hear him: “…The story of Ebola in West Africa is the parable of the dog and the leash. It is about time we asked this question: how did Ebola come to West Africa? Why? Then we must also ask, how many people have made a single naira contribution as individuals to any University endowment in Nigeria to aid research and advance knowledge – including in the areas of parasitology and virology? What do you know particularly about the biochemistry of “Ebola” – and does the “Nigerian government” exist because you exist, or do you exist because the Nigerian government exists? If you have a pandemic that is something of a biological bomb hauled at you with a full human “suicide bomber” in the form of the Liberian traveler, do you simply wait for government to build “bomb shelters” for you, or do you organize resources yourselves to protect yourself, family, and your friends? Government is only one agent in the organization of man in his society.

He added: “There are various levels of government: family, clan, community, town, provincial, and the larger public order. Society is the agglomeration of this network or epicenters of social and economic action, and if we must take a cue from your beloved America and Europe: the great stakeholders of the system – including its wealthiest individuals come together when there is an emergency and the public system which you call government proves unable to bear all the burden. They raise individual money to fund the research for the cure of deadly diseases that equally threaten them. If the Snake can mobilize 100 of his wealthy friends, and endow funds for an Ebola research Laboratory built in the Research Commons or Corridor between FUT, Owerri, The Polytechnic, Nekede and Imo State University, Owerri, that will recruit our young, brilliant biologists, zoologist, Microbiologists, biochemists, chemists, and Laboratory scientists and top grade researchers to look at Ebola closely, or better still, find a way to discern the Chemistry of the “secret serum” that just cured the American, and identify where/when/why it was produced, and if its production has a specific genomic signature in its application, you would have done a great service to your people. Enough talk. Find solutions beyond “government”!
