Update: Odumakins Seen As Opportunists Both In The Nat’l Confab And At The Just Concluded US-Africa Summit–Reports

New York[RR] Abuja–Emerging remarks from commentators, observers and political analysts seem to be indirectly making a point of calling the Odumakins(Yinka Odumakin and wife, Dr. Joe Odumakin) as ‘opportunists’ who vehemently declined to give other activists in the country the chance to participate in many of these national and international issues/platforms, Republic Reporters has learned. Others see the Odumakins as image launders and “do it all and know it all”, kind of activists.

Another source said Yinka Odumakin’s folder is soiled after Yinka Odumakin allegedly went back to collect the N50.000.00 bribe from Jonathan administration during Save Nigerian Group,SNG. “His dossier is soiled. Even when Pastor Bakare refused Egunje from GEJ and the Egunje was brought again to the hotel suite the Pastor and Odumakin stayed, I wondered at that time who persuaded the Egunje carrier to bring the money to the hotel. Well, our investigations showed it was not Pastor Bakare at all, the person who asked for the fund to be brought the second time hoping Bakare would see the Egunje-light..’he said.

Another added: “Let me just reminder you sir that both husband and wife collected that heist. The husband an “activist” who, thanks to Labarun Maku, we now know was a paid riot organizer in the University also collected.

“So Alagba Afis in one household the husband collected 12 million and the wife collected 12 million. That is a total of 24 million plus other emoluments. Alagba I have demanded then pleaded with the Odumakins to donate their share of the heist to a motherless children homes across the country. That would be in keeping with an activists ethos which eschews wealth accumulation of any form.

In a letter of invitation to Dr. Joe Odumakins and similar other invitations to Washington,DC, commentators and activists quietly questions if this is not conflict of interest when it comes to activists believe helping ‘the poor’ rather than opportunistically amassing wealth themselves rather than give other activists the chance to participate in these events. ” Dear Dr. Josephine Odumakin, It is with great pleasure that I write to invite you to participate in the Civil Society Forum of the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit. Read what commentators are saying:

Kolawole Onifade: Folks, Please find hereunder, Dr. Joe Odumakin’s invite for the ongoing U.S.-African Leaders Summit in D.C. She’s already in town rubbing shoulders with those that matter in the U.S. Just as she did barely ago as Michele Obama jostled to take pictures with her. Ranters about her participation in the ongoing National Conference were then told by me that her participation as well as Yinka’s is a blessing to Nigeria and the group they represent. Note that you may watch her live on the internet as you may not have the opportunity to get near her o!

Abudugana writes from Ikeja,Lagos: “The Odumakins remind of a popular trend among Nigerian activist. It is called ‘lana’ which translates to mean noise making to sell and improve one’s stock value.

“Every now and then that I read the Odumakins, I see them tacitly deploying that concept to its fullest advantage. That the husband and wife made it to the conference raises ethical issues, especially, in a country which is not short of human resources at all levels.

“That the Odumakins accepted such offer for the two of them to be represented at the conference further confirms that they are not different from those in power ,who abuse their positions to favor their friends and family. I knew many well-intentioned comrades in Nigeria, men and women, boys and girls, who can not boast of thousands in their account. Would it not have made sense that the Odumakins fight for those comrades to be selected for the conference. And are the Odumakins saying they are the best and the only voices around. We know them by their ways and not utterances. And the name tells it all….’,he said.

Segun: “Dr. Kassim,There are situations where sometimes for ethical reasons, one needs to stay above little things. Even if each Of u making was chosen on his or her own platform to represent divergent or different interests, one of them could have declined the offer to allow someone else to be there and avoid this insinuations. This same applies to any other circumstances and in law it is stated that not must justice be done bit justice must be seen as being done.

“In terms of real sacrifice as activists, one can not be the only one in the group that ” can do”. There must be and we should learn to give chances for others to also participate and gather that experience. This problem is in everyone stratum of our society. Everyone one what’s to be seen as the main guy without whom nothing works hope we all learn a lesson from this.

John Ebohon: “My brother Segun,I find it difficult to see what justice could be served with either of them declining to represent their diverse interest groups. Are we really saying that these two people have grown to a larger than life characters that their image, rather than what they possibly could contribute that influenced their nominations to participate in the Confab? Why should they conduct their lives on the basis what people might or might not say about them, this would be a tall order for anyone.

Afis Odidere:”Read again your ranting below, Koshiwole Onifade, “Igun” of of Angulu People.Only Nigerians can utter such nonsense like you did below. Activists all over the world do not accept funds from those they are against. It is amoral.
“It takes away any respect or reputation the activist hitherto pretends to have among followers. It debased the activist power.
However, in Nigeria, when people point out the inconsistency of people like Yinka Odumakin, a Vulture like Koshiwole Onifade will come out to run his corrupted mouth.

“Activists worldwide don’t receive Egunje, except if one is a Nigerian. It is not about the amount of N12m. It could be Ten dollar for petrol that is received, it is still bad.

“Activists worldwide don’t accept positions from Thieves…………..this is not Yinka Odumakin’s first Egunje:Odumakin accepted a position from Speaker Bankroll which should have alerted people of what sort of activist he represents.Koshiwole Onifade with all his Ife university degrees fails to fathom the main reason that people find it nauseating that Odumakin a supposed activist took Bribe. Was it not Odumakin who was chosen by Speaker Bankole to become chairman of the University he was trying to construct?
Did we not shout at that time asking him why he accepted such position knowing fully well that Speaker Bankole is trying to build a university with Looted Naija Fund?

Ola Kassim:”Dear Abudugana:The delegates to the Confab in Abuja represent a microcosm of Nigerians derived from
multiple ethnic, professional. religious organizations as well as those representing the military, civil service, traditional institutions civil unions and many other groups.

“Your castigation of Yinka and Joe Odumakin, admittedly both activists, for their acceptance of the dual nominations to the ongoing Confab in Abuja would have made some sense if they were both nominated from the same platform. Yinka Odumakin was nominated by the Afenifere, the pan Yoruba interest group while Joe Odumakin, his spouse was nominated from a women leadership organization to represent the interests of Nigerian women.

“The question you raised about the two Odumakins being represented at the Confab would have been germane if they had both been nominated on the same platform to represent the same organization.”Even though one would expect that both Odumakins, just like all other delegates would have the paramount interests of all Nigerians, regardless of ethnicity, religious affiliation and gender as their overriding goals in their deliberations, the emphasis
for Joe Odumakin (women’s issues) would be different from the emphasis for Yinka Odumakin’s mission (Yoruba interests)
at the Confab.

“I personally do not see any conflict in the fact that an husband and wife team are represented at the Abuja Confab. The Odumakins might not be the only husband and wife team at the Confab. Being an activist by itself frequently demands that one fore-goes a higher income for a much smaller one when working for an NGO. The delegates at the Confab are paid a given amount of money to partially compensate them for the income lost when they are not engaged in their regular vocations and to offset their travel and living expenses…”,he said.

Kola: “Pasito Joe,there’s a Yoruba proverb that says “anjuwon ko se wi lejo, ija ilara ko tan boro.” Let me try to interpret this for our non-Yoruba speaking forumites: a fight borne out of envy takes a while to resolve because the envious cannot really tell what’s eating him. So he resorts to such intangibles as he/she is disrespectful of elders blah blah blah. Prince here resorts to such intangibles as “the National Confab is meaningless”, “the National Confab is corrupt.” Blah blah blah.

‘But look well and you will see the real issue eating Prince: 12 million naira per diem. Then Prince who is supposedly anti-corruption and a Yoruba interest advocate will resort to telling the purveyor of truth: “why not you.” “Why Yinka?”, “you carry shoes for others”. Meaning you should have gone to the Conference and take the 12 million naira instead of Yinka or spouse! Would the purveyor of truth’s participation then make the Confab worthwhile or meaningful or no more corrupt? Then it strike you, has Prince committed a Freudian slip? Is Prince really hallucinating about what 12 million naira would have done in his life?

“Then you ponder: but Prince is bigger than 12 million naira! A whole Prince whose forebears possibly killed diviners in their domain and appropriated their properties. At least Prince told us he has a lot of inheritance. He also told us that insubordinate subjects had their heads cut off! Maybe Prince is really not fighting for justice after all! Especially given his 360 degree volte face on Raufu!

Morgan Omodu: “Abudugana,Have you been eventually assisted to return back to Nigeria? Coming to the issue you raised, yours is full of jealous and envy just like Alagba Afiz, while am used to Alagba Afis case on the Odumakin’s, yours is strange to me. With what you write here, it means you don’t have idea about the activities of the Odumakin’s. Let me help you out a bit, while Yinka Odumakin has been known to be an Afenefere man based on his conviction of the need to have better attention, his wife is known as a social critic crusader which forms under an NGO advocacy campaign. Don’t forget she once led Campaign for Democracy during the military period. As it is now, their scope of callings is quite different the only unifying force there is it is all aimed at ensuring people leave a befitting life.

“This formed their different and independent attendance at the conference, if you followed the proceedings then while it last, although i know you didn’t the two belonged to different line of thought and position based on the groups they represent. It is not a family affair matter.

“If you think and feel its easy to have media use your story and rush to you for comment on national issues why not give a trial. There is no doubt that they have been consistent and have built credibility over time. While their mates are busy collecting money and selling out struggles then, they remained focused i wonder why this envy for those to be appreciated and be made role models for up coming generation…”, he said.

Ayo Ojutalayo: “While the Odumakins and many of us see their Confab membership as an extension of their civil activism, some people see membership of the Confab strictly from the premise of pecuniary gains.Abudugana: “That the husband and wife made it to the conference raises ethical issues, especially, in a country which is not short of human resources at all levels.”

“Ola Kassim: “Your castigation of Yinka and Joe Odumakin, admittedly both activists, for their acceptance of the dual nominations to the ongoing Confab in Abuja would have made some sense if they were both nominated from the same platform. Yinka Odumakin was nominated by the Afenifere, the pan Yoruba interest group while Joe Odumakin, his spouse was nominated from a women leadership organization to represent the interests of Nigerian women.”

“Ola’s excellent explanation will not make sense to those whose castigation is rooted in envy and jealousy..’, he said.

Segun: “As much as I always love and share most of the views espoused by Dr. Olakassim, I strongly hold that the Odumakins have not done anything extraordinary or any better than most of the comrades in the struggle. No, they have not, in whatever form and capacity. If anything, more than many known and the little know comrades, the Odumakins have benefitted mainly from the media to project their own image.

“While many factors may have contributed to the sensationalization of the Odumakins image, real and imagined, I have no doubt that it is the ‘lana’ factor that largely explains this trend. I even see the same concept at work and as the main undercurrent behind ‘Dr.’ Joe Odumakin’s human rights NGO.

“I have monitored the NGO’s media activities over the years and came to the conclusion, that it is driven by half good intention and half image laundering at work. Even, the comments and activities of Mr. Yinka Odunmakin have not been any different from mixed intention. For any small thing they do, there is always camera by the side. Talking to camera means a lot, particularly, when image laundering and international fund seeking are part of the agenda framing context.

“Finally, Mr. Odunmakin only represented his group, the Afenifere, and not the Yorubas. I am not aware if the Yorubas accepted the group as its representation. May be Mr. Odunmakin needs to prove us wrong by going back to Osun State, his root, to contribute to the well-being of the rural poor. Doing that will help change opinions about the Odumakins being opportunists…”, he said.

Afis Odidere: ‘Koshiwole Onifade, what has Joe Odumakin’s participation in a brainstorming session, mostly a meaningless exercise, has to do with Corrupt National Confab she was paid to attend? This guy Onifade is a real Vulture, a man who carries sacrifice for others to Orita Meta, an “Angulu Mai kiso”……Igun guy!

Joe Atuenyi: “Haba Afis congratulate my sister now. A prophet(ess) has honor except in his/ her household. Dr Joe is worthy of celebration.

Ayo Ojutlayo: Joe,Those of us that appreciate good things and good people celebrate your sister and her husband.

afis Odidere: “Dear Joe Attueyi:The moment Dr Odumakin received N12m Egunje on the National Confab, I find it hard to honor such person.Activists don’t take money from the bad guys they are fighting hard to wrestle them out of power.I read the sister wrongly, just as I did with her husband. I don’t give myself room to make mistakes twice.

WS: “Alagba Afis: Let me just reminder you sir that both husband and wife collected that heist.

“Alagba the Odumakins are eye-service charlatans and I have no regards for such people.

Afis Odidere: ‘Afis pondering ponderment: Baba Wharfy, honestly, I can’t say you lied. His dossier is soiled. Even when Pastor Bakare refused Egunje from GEJ and the Egunje was brought again to the hotel suite the Pastor and Odumakin stayed, I wondered at that time who persuaded the Egunje carrier to bring the money to the hotel. Well, our investigations showed it was not Pastor Bakare at all, the person who asked for the fund to be brought the second time hoping Bakare would see the Egunje-light was………..Alagba Wharfy your guess is as good as mine!

George Kerley: “A country of viciously envious and demented haters. This is the best they can do. Shame on all of them.
