Parents of Police Brutality Victims to Join Daily Vigil Demanding Bratton and “Broken Windows” Must Go–Reports

New York[RR] New York–The Stop Mass Incarceration Network, and Parents Against Police Brutality: Juanita Young, Iris Baez, and others, are organizing a Press conference and vigil to include parents who lost loved ones at the hands of the police (Stolen Lives) at One Police Plaza, on September 16, Tuesday, 2015, at 4pm, in front of NYPD headquarters at One Police Plaza, Lower Manhattan, Republic Reporters has learned.

Organizers said that, Tuesday, September 16, parents and family members of those killed by police will join a daily vigil organized by the Stop Mass Incarceration Network. Their voices will bring into reality what NYPD’s “Broken Windows” policies – like the vicious killing of Eric Garner — mean for Black and Latino communities.

Meanwhile, the vigils are putting forth the following:
“Bratton and “Broken Windows” Must Go Now!Justice for Eric Garner! Indict the Killer Cops! Stop the Repression of the Witnesses!

It added, “All Out for the Month of Resistance to Mass Incarceration, Police Terror, Repression and the Criminalization of a Generation!

“Eric Garner was choked to death by an NYPD officer for supposedly selling loose cigarettes. The killer cop Daniel Panteleo is still walking free. Ramsey Orta, the young man who filmed the NYPD murder of Eric Garner, has been arrested and is facing prison. NYPD Commission William Bratton, the architect of the “Broken Windows” theory of policing, continues to assert that the choke-hold is not illegal, and should not be condemned as such.

“In reality, “Broken Windows” means broken lives. It means Black and Brown people are harassed and arrested for putting their fee on subway seats, having pot in their pockets, selling loose cigarettes and more. Bratton claims Broken Windows targets people who commit petty offenses because these “crimes” are the first step to people committing major crimes later on. NO, this is a LIE. The authorities had to jump back in face of the widespread opposition to “Stop-and-Frisk.” “Broken Windows” is their new policy of abuse to replace it.

In reality “Broken Windows” policing is the first step to the NYPD harassing, brutalizing and murdering people, who are predominantly Black and Brown.

The daily vigils will take place from 3 PM to 7 PM at One Police Plaza. They are organized by the Stop Mass Incarceration Network. These vigils are building actions leading to the October 2014 Month of Resistance to Mass Incarceration, Police Terror, Repression and the Criminalization of a Generation.
