Tension in Imo community as Okorocha replaces Eze Ilomuanya By George Onyejiuwa

New York[RR] Owerri– Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha yesterday, replaced the traditional ruler of Obinugwu, Eze Cletus Ilomuanya, who the governor accused of abandoning his duties as a traditional ruler.

He replaced Ilomuanya, who doubles as the chairman of the South East Council of Traditional Rulers with Chief Stanley Nwangwu as the new monarch of Obinugwu. Already, tension is mounting in the community as youths have kicked against Nwangwu’s installation and hinted that his safety in the community could not be guaranteed, stressing that Ilomuanya remained their monarch.

Eze Nwangwu and another monarch from Akwakwuma in Owerri North were jointly presented with a staff of office at the Government House, Owerri by Governor Okorocha.

Addressing the people of Obinugwu autonomous community, who had come to show solidarity to their new traditional ruler, Governor Okorocha said the people of Obinugwu had been rescued from tyranny, intimidation and harassment.

He said the dethronement of the former Eze was an end of a bad era, while the emergence of the new traditional ruler was the beginning of a new era of freedom, peace and unity for the Obinugwu community.

Okorocha maintained that the dethroned traditional ruler, Ilomuanya, who had been parading himself as the traditional ruler of the area was an outright impersonation, adding that it was within his power to recognise or drop a traditional ruler. He warned those who engage in name-dropping of prominent citizens of the state to desist.

“The truth about the Obinugwu Ezeship stool has manifested with the new Eze being installed. Nobody is above the law and that evil must not be encouraged to thrive. The era of selling the Ezeship stool in Imo State to the highest bidder, no matter the person’s shortcomings, has come to an end,” Okorocha said.

He regretted that in spite of the removal of Ilomuanya as the chairman of the state Council of Traditional Rulers and as the Eze of Obinugwu, some security agencies were still aiding him, describing the act as illegal.

He enjoined the two new traditional rulers to ensure peace in their communities and assured that the government would do everything to give them the needed support to function as traditional rulers.

Meanwhile, the youths of Obinugwu community, have cautioned Governor Okorocha to desist from the issuance of illegal certificate of recognition and Staff of Office to Nwangwu insisting that Ilomuanya remained the monarch of the community.

Speaking on behalf of the youths of Obinugwu, Mr.Uchenna Ohaonu, said: “We cannot guaranty the safety of Mr Stanley Nwangwu if he dares the will of Obinugwu people and steps his foot into our community. We also warn Governor Okorocha to please, leave our king, Eze (Dr) Cletus Ilomuanya alone and obey the rule of law before he sets Imo state on fire. ”

Adding,”Be it known that Mr Stanley Nwangwu is not indigene of Obinugwu community is from is Arondizogu in Ideato North Council”

Also reacting to the installation of the new monarch, the chief press secretary to the deposed royal father,Kennedy Eweama said that the new monarch can never be recognized in the community because he alleged that he was never an indigene of Obinugwu in the first place.
