THE FINAL THERAPY YOU NEED: Africans Need Psychotherapy By Ozodi Osuji

New York[RR] Seattle–Africans are always talking politics; if you listened to them talk politics you would think that they would govern their countries appropriately. To the contrary, all of black Africa is misgoverned. Bluntly put, at present Africans cannot govern their people correctly. This is largely due to the fact that most Africans live unexamined lives (which really are life not worth living). Clearly, to be able to properly govern their countries, Africans must have clearer understanding of their personalities and self-concepts. If they had the resources they ought to undergo psychotherapy. But the fact is that they do not have such luxury. I hope that this paper (culled from notes on my self-observation) helps those of them who want to examine their lives to do so and come to some sort of self-understanding and henceforth do the right things by their people. As of now one expects unexamined African lives to continue generating chaos in Africa.

THE FINAL THERAPY YOU NEED

In childhood I rejected my real body; I did so because it was pained and not good; my rejection of it and wish for a better body is rational.

I posited an alternative ideal body, and wished that it were real and I become it. Whereas the wished for ideal self is understandable that self is not real, it is imaginary and cannot come into existence for it is mere wishes not reality; it is a mental construct not a physical reality.

In the meantime I use the imaginary ideal self to compare the real self; I feel bad (mild depression) because the real does not measure up to the imaginary ideal self.

What I do to me I do to other people; that is, I wish that they are ideal and compare them to how they ought to be, imaginary ideal selves and imaginary ideal standards of behaviors and necessarily find that they do not measure up and, thus, I reject them or keep wishing that they would become ideal, which they would never become.

Sometimes I think that the wishes of the ideal self are the wishes of God and if I do not live up to their ideal standards I am not living up to my imaginary God’s standards and I feel guilty for not being perfect.

AS an aside, God does not exist; he is our wished for ideal self, hence God is a delusion. The delusion of God nevertheless motivates human behavior; it is the rare human being who extricates his thinking from his imaginary God (the Christian God, Islamic God, Hindu God etc. are all imaginary gods and do not exist in fact; what exists is a sea of impersonal intelligence.)

The cure for this neurosis, that is self-rejection and quest for ideal self, is to give up wishing for ideal self and accept the real self as it is, not as it should be. I cannot become ideal and no human being can become ideal, so stop trying to become ideal and asking people to become ideal; accept your real self, warts and all.

In so far that the real self is generally not good enough then use science to study its problems and do whatever is scientifically, that is, realistically possible to improve it, not imaginary improvement but realistic improvement.

As long as you wish for the idea and use its imaginary standards to compare you and people you cannot make sense to realistic people; your proffered social and political polices would never be accepted by normal persons for they intuitively know that the ideal is not the real.

A course in miracles is spiritual idealism; Helen Schuman wished that there is spirit and her mind came up with what it believed is ideal spirit self (ideal Jesus, ideal Holy Spirit, ideal God, ideal after death world…she called her ideals real world). The woman provided idealistic conception of the supposed historical Jesus.

In a sense her metaphysics is not real; but it represent reality better than most other religions. It is an escape from imperfect reality; it cannot come into being for people will always be imperfect and do bad things and society would always punish them; if anti-social behaviors are not deterred society breaks down and revert to chaos and people live in Thomas Hobbes state of nature, insecurity.

That been said, A course in miracles contains some spiritual values. My job is to transform it to a realistic metaphysics that can apply to the world we live in.

The historical Jesus posited ideal religion that could not obtain in our world and normal persons transformed it to what is doable on earth, made his god a god that they can live with on earth.

Normal folk’s religions while allowing for god leave him in his imaginary heaven where he is ideal but on earth is reinterpreted so that it is able to deal with imperfect people, establish a political system that punishes wrong doers, not the god that insists on blanket forgiveness that no one can ever accomplish on earth.

Forgiveness is ideal but if actually practiced leads to the end of history and society, for it would mean looking the other way as folks kill folks and rape and steal hence chaos ensues. On earth we must punish evil doers if we want organized society otherwise society would not exist.

MY WEAK BODY CAUSED MY BRAIN TO SEEK IDEALS HENCE GIVE ME FRUSTRATED LIVING

My weak body felt pain and caused my brain or mind to respond with pursuit of ideal body and self. As long as I seek to become ideal I cannot attain that ideal and must feel frustrated relative to ideal standards.

Moreover, the pursuit of ideals generates fear of not attaining them thus I live in enhanced fear (every human being lives in fear of harm to his body and fear his ego’s death but I live in doubled fear, added fear of not attaining the goals of the ideal self).

Fear, anxiety and anger characterize my life.

And for all those I could not change my body and cannot attain the ideal self and ideal people and ideal social institutions and ideal world that my ego desired.
Realism dictates that I accept what is as it is and give up pursuit of ideals. My body is what it is, what I am in this life time.

I must accept that my brain and mind generated too much fear for me. Consider the noise in my new apartment that gave me the impression that a ghost is walking around in it and my fear dreams. My brain, mind uses neutral physical noise that I had associated with ghosts to produce dreams in which it seemed that ghosts were attacking me.

This means that in my wake life my fear also uses neutral issues to construct self-attacking life style; for example, white folks are racists towards all black folks but I personalized it and made it seem like they are attacking only me.

NO IDEALS MEANS CALM THINKING

Without pursuit of ideals one would not even think, or would think calmly; one would live calmly, quietly and peacefully; one would not eat too much food for addiction to food is desire to approximate the impossible ideal self and its grasping nature.

The solution to all my issues is to never have ideal wishes and to not think, look at me and people or anything from the parameters of ideals.

I have solved this problem now. I now live with my crummy body and have no wishes to improve it.

ALL PSYCHOTHERAPY IS GIVING UP DESIRE FOR IDEAL SELF

All psychotherapy is removal of the wish to be ideal self and living from the real self, the crummy bodily self, living from the real self (which may also be spirit and love but those are mental constructs and could be exaggerated and pursuing them become deluded).

DEATH AND RESURRECTION

All my life I have pursued ideal self which means that I have been dead. It is now time to resurrect from death, that is, to stop seeking ideal self.

Pursuit of ideal self is attack on the real self. The part of my mind that is afraid of death, the ego and body is already dead; the part that knows itself to be part of undifferentiated self is eternal and does not fear death.

WHAT IS IS WHAT HAS TO BE SO DO NOT WISH ALTERNATIVES TO IT

What is is what is so deal with it and do not try to change it, improve it and make it ideal for you cannot succeed; the world is as it is and that is as it should be all things realistically considered (there are infinite other worlds but we are here and must deal with it as it is, not as it should be).

THE SELF IS A CONCEPT BUT WHO IS THE CONCEPTUALIZER?

Each human child posits a concept of who he thinks that he is and who he wants to become. This is probably in place before age five; thereafter, the child as adult behaves in accord with his self-concept.

The self is a concept and as you conceive yourself you behave. There are different types of concepts; there are realists, that is normal folks; there are idealists, that is neurotic folks who posit idealized self-concepts and want to behave as such; there are deluded persons who posit concepts of their selves as very important and superior persons and behave as such (of course they are not superior to other persons, but in pursuit of their deluded self-concepts they harm other people, they even kill people as Hitler did).

It is us who conceptualize what we call God. We conceive what we call God and then worship our own conception.
So who are we? We are the conceptualizer. But who is the conceptualizer? He is spirit; that is, he is not body and has no form.

IMPROVED SELF CONCEPTS AND NO SELF CONCEPT

Each human being must have a self-concept; he builds on his inherited biological constitution and social experience to form a self-concept. The self-concept is an adaptation to the world of separation. It says that one has a self that is apart from other people, and other things, a separated self.

Clearly, some self-concepts make for happier existence and others make for unhappy existence. What is called personality disorder and mental disorder is problematic self-concept.

The paranoid self-concept, for example, feels inadequate and wants to feel adequate. He wants other people to see his self as important; his entire behavior is motivated by desire to seem important; he likes those who make him feel important and dislikes those who make him feel small. He is always quarrelling with those he believes make him seem small. Obviously, he could change such a problematic self-concept.

Each of us has a self-concept, normal or problematic self- concept and could improve it. The self-concept must be improved.

When one dies and reincarnates in different bodies and has different social experiences, one necessarily changes one’s self concept; if the new social experience is positive and if the inherited body is healthy ones new self-concept is better than past problematic ones.

We come back to this world over and over until we have improved our self-concepts. What are reincarnations for? They are to enable us change our self-concepts, improve them until we see the world differently, with love and forgiveness.

However, we do not have to wait until we die and reincarnate to change our self-concepts; we can do so right now if we learn to love and forgive all people.

The self-concept gives one a manner of seeing one’s self and other people and seeing the entire world. Everything the individual sees is colored by his self-concept, for the self-concept is a way of coding experience to see it in an individual manner. Thus, we must struggle to change our self-concepts; and to the extent that they seem more socially realistic we feel a bit peaceful and happy.

WHAT IS SALVATION?

What is salvation? Salvation is having Christ like, that is, loving and forgiving self-concept. This is as high as self-concept can be improved while we still live in forms, that is, while we still have separated self-concepts, still having human personalities. At the highest level one sees one’s self in a body of light and sees other people and animals, trees, everything in forms of light. One is still in our world but has transformed that world into a loving one (some call the light formed world astral world or real world; it is the world those who have experienced near death see).

WHAT IS HEAVEN?

One must give up the self-concept and have no self-concept, no self he can think of, no self that he himself conceptualized, no self as the world understands it.

When one has no self-concept one returns to the undifferentiated self, no separated self, unified self, aka God. Here perception ends, for one need a self-concept to see at all.

In the no-self state one is in what Hinduism calls Samadhi, Buddhism calls Nirvana and Zen calls Satori; one has exited this world of appearances, world of pictures, world of images and world of perception and one has returned to our original self, the no separated self-world, the unified self, God’s world. This is enlightenment, illumination self-realization.

Very few persons on earth attain awareness of this unified self and if they did it is during meditation when they sit quietly and tune out their self-concepts.

On leaving meditation they return to being the improved self, the loving and forgiving self hence see the world as a loving place. Here, they see love even in the madness going on…even if folks kill folks they see love for the world is a dream and what is taking place in it has not taken place…they themselves cannot kill or do bad things but they know that those doing bad things are dreaming, as they too are dreaming when they see at all, although their dreams are now purified.

As long as you see things, people, animals, trees, planets, stars, galaxies, the physical universe, dense (our world) or light (astral world, after death world) forms of them you are in the world of perception, the world of dreaming, the world of separation, the world of illusion and delusion.

In unified spirit self-there is no world to see at all, for all are one, this is the world of perfect peace and joy, bliss.

Where is the world of unified self? It is here, where you are; it all depends on your state of mind. Heaven is in you, is where you are but you to not experience it for it cannot be seen, it can only be experienced when our world is tuned out.

When first we tune out our world we see the world of the light forms (astral world, the world folks see in near death experience…this world is still not real, it is our world seen with loving and forgiving eyes, a mild delusion, happy fiction); when that light world is also tuned out we then experience the formless unified world of God.

The world one sees or experiences, formless, light forms and dense forms reflects ones state of mind.

For our present purpose, each of us has a self-concept and his self-concept enables him to live in our world of dense forms and see separated people in bodies.

When the self-concept is made loving and forgiving one sees the world of light forms.

Finally, when one gives up all desire for separated self-one relaxes into the non-perceptual world of God and experiences perfect peace and joy, bliss.

THE REAL WORLD

What A course in miracles calls the real world (also called happy dream, bridge between heaven and earth, behavior directed by the Holy Spirit) presents our world in a reinterpreted manner; it is still our world but now a loving and forgiving world hence in light forms; it is still an illusory world, not real, just happy fiction; it is still a delusion for it still has separated things, people, animals, trees, stars, planets etc.; it is still a pointless, meaningless world albeit a bit more peaceful and happy.

What we need to do is let go of our world and the real world, let go of all world of forms and return to the formless world of God.

To attain the world of God is to let go of all desire for separated self, to die to the ego self and its body. God is not perceptual and cannot be seen with our physical eyes or the eyes of Christ (forgiveness).

You can attain the world of God if you choose not to react to anything you see in our world with your usual self concept, not react with your human personality, not react as your personality normally dispose you to react and stay quiet; do not say anything about whatever you see and sooner or later you would stop seeing anything at all and revert to the world of no seeing, the world of knowledge.

WHAT IS THE ROOT OF HUMAN SUFFERING?

I was trying to make me, other people and social institution, indeed animals, plants and the entire universe conform to my mind invented ideals of how they should become. I see them as not good and want to make them become good. I am playing ego god and want to recreate things in my image of how they should become. Up to a point all human beings do what I do hence all of us suffer.

Human suffering lies in trying to change the self and its world and make it an ideal self and world.

What is the cure for human suffering? I must have no ideal self-concept of which I want me, people and everything to live up to; I must accept things as they are, imperfect and not as I expect them to become.

In the final analysis everything is nothing and meaningless and no matter how much one tries they are not going to become something important. I must say nothing, good or bad about people and simply see them as they are.

IF YOU ARE FEARLESS

If you are fearless you must be defenseless, for fear defends the separated self in body; the world is designed for human beings and animals to be fearful, for it is fear that defends their separated selves, defends illusions that do not in fact exist. Fear defends the separated self, ego.

SEPARATED SELF HAS LIMITED INTELLIGENCE AND KNOWLEDGE; UNIFIED SELF HAS INFINITE INTELLIGENCE AND KNOWLEDGE

Fearful persons have limited self, limited intelligence and limited knowledge; if you let go of your separated self and embrace the undifferentiated self you embrace unlimited intelligence and knowledge.

The more egoistic you are the more limited is your intelligence and knowledge. Black persons and Africans tend to be very egoistic and as a result tend to be less intelligent; white folks tend to be less egoistic hence more intelligent. Asians try to have no ego at all and as a result are the most intelligent human beings.

Jesus let go of his separated ego and returned to unified self; he returned to limitless intelligence and knowledge hence could do what folks called miracles.

THE UNIVERSE IS A SEA OF UNLIMITED INTELLIGENCE

The universe is a sea of unlimited intelligence; each of us sees his self as limited to his separated body hence assign his self to limited intelligence and knowledge; each of us is a speck of intelligence; if one lets go of one’s separation one accesses unlimited intelligence.

In the world of light forms one still has limited separated self hence has limited intelligence albeit more than one had in ego dense body but when one lets go of all forms, light and dense one returns to unlimited intelligence.

BULLS, ANIMALS FIGHT OUT OF FEAR; FEAR OF LIMITED RESORUCES HENCE PROTECTS THEIR TERRITORIES ANDTHEIR FEMALES.

It is fear that leads male animals to fight for their territories and females.

WHAT HAPPANED IS WHAT HAPPENED SO LIVE WITH IT

If you think about it, whatever happened in this world could have happened in different ways; in fact, there are infinite ways any past event could have happened. Thus, you can waste your time thinking about how you could have done something differently and obtained different results. All the different scenarios are interesting but the fact is that you did what you did under the circumstances you found yourself in and probably behaved in accord with the information available to you.

Of course you could do it differently but the fact is that you did what you did and that is all there is to it. Therefore, it is really a waste of time reminiscing how you could have done things differently and how you could have lived your life differently.

If you inherited a different body and had a different social experience hence developed a different personality and lived in a different time in history you could have done things differently, but the fact is that you were born into a certain body and was exposed to a certain family and society and its culture and at a certain period in history and developed the personality that you have. That personality is congruent with your biosocial background.

You can study your body and personality, understand them and change them (up to a point for you cannot change your entire body) and behave differently but that notwithstanding the fact is that at any point in time you behave in accordance with your personality, your ego and self-concept. Until you change all those variables you must behave as you behave.

For example, upon retrospection it occurred to me that I had not really loved the women in my life; I asked why and traced it to my personality.

My personality disposed me to place my personal survival ahead of other people’s survival. If I look at it objectively my inherited problematic body (Cytochrome C Oxidase Deficiency and Spondilolysis) made my body too pained for me so that I had to concentrate on doing what made me survive. In relationships with women I tend to put my interests ahead of theirs.

In true love one does not place ones interest ahead of other people’s interests. Well, I did not love the women in my life; I wish that I did but if wishes were horses’ beggars would ride them.

My unloving behavior was what was and there is nothing that I can do about it. Am I a bad person? Of course not.

If I subjected the women that I related to impersonal analysis I see that they, too, placed their self-interests ahead of my interests.

In our special love relationships, that is ego based relationships, at best we select those we serve our mutual interests with but seldom do we select those we serve. The fact is that most women look after what is good for them.

For example, if you are tall, athletic and handsome and have money most women will like you but if you are short, ugly, fat and poor most women would not even notice your presence.

I am very handsome and smart so I tend to attract beautiful, well educated women. But I am not rich so women sooner or later discover that I cannot buy them those flashy cars they have their eyes on, so they leave and I say good riddance. I am not sentimental about women so when they leave me I say goodbye, sayonara and move on to other women; as they say, there are plenty of fish in the water.

The point is that I was not a loving person and neither were the women I related to. That was what was but it was what had to be in my life, all things considered.

I believe that everything that has happened to me in my life had to happen to me. I do not regret anything that has happened to me, good or bad. I learn from the good and bad.

Consider racism. When I was subjected to racism by white folks, it seemed that my world had collapsed but what it did for me is lead me to reject the white world and everything it gives. Indeed, I denied that I went to white universities; I now simply say that whatever I know I learned from living. I no longer have a need to attach degrees to my name. I do not need white given occupational positions to make me feel good. I simply accept who I am as whom I am and do not need external people to make me feel good about me.

Ultimately, I learned that the racists who felt that they were obstructing me were actually liberating me from their world. Now they and their world seem worse than shit in my eyes; these folks actually liberated me.

I actually learned that I asked the racist to discriminate against me so that I would see through his sick world and reject it. To me the white world is sick and I have no use for it; do you like sickness?

Because I asked the racist and all those who did bad things to me to do what they ought I to bless them; one must be grateful to ones detractors as well as to ones benefactors.

Those who came to abuse me have liberated me from their evil world. I now live authentically, doing my thing and if you do not like what I do you are free to go do your own thing or go jump into the ocean and drawn yourself.

I do not live to meet your expectations, nor do I expect you to live to meet my expectations, and I have no expectations from you…long ago I gave up neurotic idealism that posited ideal standards of how people should behave and simply accepted people as they behave.

The point is that I accepted whatever happened to me as what happened to me and as liberating; my supposed persecutors are now my liberators, my saviors.

Am I grateful to them, yes! However, if racists continue being evil someone is going to slap them down. Racist white Americans have dug their graves for the anger in black folks, sooner or later, would boil over and drag their evil empire down and replace it with another empire (which also would be evil, until people learn to love all people).

As I write a white police officer killed a black boy at Ferguson, Missouri; probably he did not respect black lives; black folks are rioting. If racism does not stop by the middle of this century there would be mass uprising that topples white rule in America.

I see a French type revolution in America where the rich and powerful have their heads chopped off and new types of society, one where goods and services are more equitably distributed, replace it.

MIND BEHAVES IN ACCORDANCE OF WHAT IT CONSIDERS TRUE BUT NOT WHAT IS NECESSARILY TRUE

We do not know what the truth is. Our minds nevertheless take certain things as true and behave in accordance. I heard a creepy noise in my bedroom, a noise that starts from my bedroom, progresses to the next room then to the bathroom and ending in the living room. The noise sounds like a human being is walking around the house. My mind associates it with a human being doing so except that I do not see a person. I speculated that it might be a ghost, the spirit of a person who had lived in the house before me. A little investigation showed that the person who lived in that place had died a few months before I moved in. I jumped to the conclusion that a ghost probably is bothering me. Thereafter, I had dreams, four of them to be specific, in which ghosts appear to be bothering me and I woke up in freight. The noise in my house is probably due to physical things and can be explained through the laws of physics, especially electricity.

The point here is that a false belief has forced my mind to lead me to experience the world as if it is attacking and persecuting me and I am responding accordingly (the noise in my bedroom makes my body shivers).

This whole episode teaches me that my day life is also a product of false ideas that my mind accepted as true. My mind takes what is not true into it and makes me behave accordingly.

In childhood I had serious sickness and felt at the door of death several times. I felt threatened. My mind developed fear of all kinds of things and imagines them trying to harm me. Thus, I respond with fear to neutral stimulus. In my adult life I associate neutral stimuli with fear and react with fear. My mind is presenting negative events to scare me. That is, my life is circumscribed by my mind generated issues that are not true.

MENTAL DISORDERS ARE ROOTED IN EFFORT TO BE IDEAL SELF

I have come to the decision that mental disorders lay in the effort to become an idealized self. The person is acutely aware that as he is and as human beings are is nothing. To be a human being is to be nothing.

The awareness of his and human nothingness leads the individual to try to mask it over, cast a veil over it and become something important and meaningful. He posits an idealized self and pursues that idealized self. It is in its pursuit that all mental disorders, personality disorder and normalcy lie.

Normal persons are like animals; they are not acutely aware of the nothingness of being human being; this is due to the state of their bodies.

Neurotics have bodies that are excited and make them aware of the nothingness of being human being and they seek to become something better but know that they are still nothing.

Psychotics, like neurotics, are acutely aware of the nothingness of being but so identify with the imaginary important selves they constructed that their ridiculousness becomes apparent to all people. If you are poor and see yourself as a billionaire and behave as such you are ridiculous (the manic person or schizophrenic person does that). Personality disorders are neurotics with acute sense of nothingness and pursuit of some thingness.

Mystics are aware of their nothingness but also have an awareness of some thingness in the undifferentiated state of God and identify with it and do not bother with neurotic, personality disordered or psychotic quest for importance based on body. The mystic has fled body and ego and is now in undifferentiated state; he is no longer part of the normal and neurotic world; he is now living in a world outside body hence is happy and peaceful; he does not care for what happens to his body and ego, whether he dies or not; like everyone else he too gets diseases of the body but do not fret about them for he knows that he is not a body.

ALL HUMAN BEHAVIOR IS MOTIVATED BY DESIRE FOR WORTH, VALUE AND MEANING

Human civilization boils down to seeking worth in a world where we are worthless; we seek worth from everything we do: from our work, law, science, technology; everything we do is done in an attempt to give us worth when in fact we have no worth.

If you removed seeking worth from human beings they would revert to being mere animals, but animals also seek worth so that is no solution; if you removed worth seeking human beings would no longer be human beings; they would die to living in body and revert to spirit where worth is eternal (even here there is worth).

In body worth is contingent on maintaining body and can varnish at any time, for body can be destroyed at any time.

Body has no permanent value…what is the worth of a human body when cremated into ashes, less than a penny?

FORGIVENESS GIVES ONE SALVATION AND BRINGS SALVATION TO THE REST OF THE PEOPLE

When one forgives other people and the world one sees one’s self and those one has forgiven in light forms. Seeing one’s self and other people in light forms means that one has risen above our dense forms world; one has attained salvation, for salvation means living in the world of light forms (what Hindus call astral world and A Course in miracles calls real world).

When one has been saved one gives ones salvation to other people. It does not mean that they would welcome it; instead, they could keep being evil and living in the world of dense forms. But the Holy Spirit in them (their higher self) has received the salvation one gave to them and keeps it for them.

The Holy Spirit keeps it for them waiting for them to forgive other people and then receive that salvation, but not until they have forgiven the world would they receive it and experience living in the world of light forms.

By forgiving the world one speeds salvation for all people; one cuts down the time it would take the people forgiven to attain their own salvation by one thousand years.

If we all forgive each other we shorten the time our world would be transformed into the world of light forms.

In the meantime, the few persons who have forgiven the world, such as Jesus Christ live in the world of light forms. From there they wait for all of us to forgive all of us and then join them where they are and from there we return to the formless world of God.

On earth people are at various stages of spiritual development. There are people whose minds are calm most of the time; they do not easily feel fearful or angry; they do not think too much; they talk only when other persons talk to them and say loving things most of the time; such persons have no hatred for anyone; they are near salvation (that is near going to live in the world of light forms) but are not yet there; they are still in the world of dense forms, our world but when they die they do not return to our world; they stay in the world of light forms, whereas undeveloped persons return to our world until they learn to forgive all and when they die they stay in the world of light forms.

This life time on earth is my last in the world of dense forms; when I die I will stay in the world of light forms and from there work with other spiritually enlightened masters such as Jesus and Buddha to teach those still in the world of dense forms to love and forgive one another and join us in the world of light forms.

When all people have forgiven all people we return to the awareness of the formless world of God, our original world before we went on the quest for separated living.

A GOOD TEACHER DOES NOT CHANGE OTHER PEOPLE BUT GIVE THEM INFORMATION

A good teacher gives people information that he believes is true and asks them to use that information to do the work that is necessary to improve their lives; he does not aim at changing people for it is not for him to change people.

No human being can change other people; at best, the individual struggles to change himself and to the extent that it is possible change what is changeable in him and live with what is not changeable in him. It is not for the teacher to change other people.

Jesus Christ did not change his apostles; Buddha did not change his apostles; in either case the teacher tells people how he found liberation from his ego separated self-concept and tells them to try to do the same if that is what they wish.

It is not for me to change any one; my sole existential task is to struggle to find out the truth and live it and share that truth with folks searching for the truth. I am not obligated to change people, nor can I change people even if I tried.

Each human being has the freedom to construct his self-concept as he wishes; no one else can deconstruct his self-concept and reconstruct it for him.

Communists in Eastern Europe made the mistake of believing that it is up to them to change people and make them socially serving (Alfred Adler had similar foolish belief hence the failure of his socialistic individual psychology). In doing so they killed millions of people.

Whoever aims at changing people ends up a dictator and kills people and, worse, does not change any one. It is up to you, the individual to seek information and use it to do whatever you want to do; it is not for a teacher to change you.

I have performed my existential task; I see people, especially Africans living foolish lives and gave them information with which to straighten out their lives and take the consequences of their behaviors; it is not for me to play psychotic god, as Adolf Hitler did, and try to change people.

CONCLUSION

The human psyche, mind, or whatever you may choose to call it has many parts. The first part is pure spirit; that part is part of all spirits and is part of the whole spirit folks call God.

A part of whole spirit, aka God, which Christians call son of God decided to separate from God. It cannot separate from God but seems to have done so and sleeps and dreams our world.

That part of our minds that decided to separate from other minds and from God is not known to us; we can call it the unconscious level of our minds.

It is that unconscious part of our minds that dream our day and nightly dreams. No one in the dream, on earth can fully understand how that unconscious part of our minds works.

*You may have noticed how this paper combined both secular and spiritual psychologies; that is the only way to truly heal people; secular, scientific psychology alone does not heal mental disorders; we need to add rational spirituality to scientific psychology if we are going to heal people; my approach to people combines scientific and spiritual psychologies; my approach is really the only approach that heals people. By spiritual I do not mean what that concept is conceptualized as by extant religions; I define spirit as our disembodied, undifferentiated real self or universal intelligence from which all of us emanate and with which we do what we do in our limited lives in separated selves housed in body. I do not belong to any organized religion.
