True Or False: Buhari ‘Never Touched Kobo Of Public Funds’ Through Out His Nigeria Military Career?-Republic Reporters

New York[RR] Abuja–“I Have Never Touched A Kobo Of Public Funds..I Challenge Anyone In Race Of Leadership Of This Country To Make…The Same Claim..– Muhammadu Buhari (Wednesday, 13th April, 2011), how many Nigerians believe this remark by Buhari; and how many think he could have used proxies to siphon funds from national coffers is the question.

Republic Reporters yesterday, reviewed and reported the remarks made by former military dictator Mohammadu Buhari in 2011, leading to presidential polls in Nigeria. This claim now is causing many to raise eyebrows, Republic Reporters investigations shows.

Mohammadu Buhari had on Wednesday, 13th April, 2011, during the heat of political campaign for 2011 presidential polls, categorically and boldly stated the following words:

“Ladies and gentlemen, I am Muhammadu Buhari, and today I am 69 years old; and I am sure I don’t have to remind you that I have fought many battles in my life. I have fought drift and purposelessness in this nation. I have fought corruption and indiscipline. I have fought indolence and the betrayal of trusts. I have fought the Nigerian civil war and struggled for the unity of this country in many other ways. I have had the fortune and privilege of managing national resources in various capacities—as a military commander, as a state governor, as a minister, as head of the Petroleum Trust Fund, and as the head of state of this great country. And in all that I have been and done, I have never touched a kobo of public funds. I say this without pride and with all sense of responsibility and humility; but I challenge anyone in the race for the leadership of this country then or now to dare make the same claim.”–Muhammadu Buhari (Wednesday, 13th April, 2011).

Many are questioning this claim, since Buhari is allegedly been bankrolled in many instances by corrupt military officer, like TY. Danjuma, paying for his campaign facility in FCT, Abuja, who once said, that he doesn’t know what to do with his oil-Money, worth over 2.5Billion dollars, which he later sold to a Chinese consortium.

According to Leadership New Paper, ” “A retired air commodore, who sought anonymity, told LEADERSHIP Sunday that the commission did not do its home work well before arriving at the salary structure and urged President Jonathan to revisit the matter before it dampens the spirit of the affected military chiefs”

“For example, the salary of a Lt. Col / Wing Commander / Navy Commander per annum is N3,380, 086 while that of the next rank, colonel / group captain / navy captain is N3,715,859 per annum.

“The difference, to an extent, is reasonable. But the next rank, big-gen / air commodore / navy commodore receives a whooping sum of N7,385,856 per annum, then followed by major general / air vice marshal / rear admiral who gets N12, 038, 945. Can you see the gap? But it may interest you to know that the next rank, Lt-gen / air marshal / vice admiral receives N13, 363, 229 a year”

“Let me explain the issue at stake in another way: A Lt-col receives N281, 673, 83 as salary per month, a colonel earns N309, 654, 917, a brig-gen gets N615, 488, 00, major general gets N1 million plus while the Lt. general gets N1.113 million and a general, that is the CDS, nets N1.358 million. The main problem has to do with the gap between a colonel and a brigadier-general and that of the major general.”, it said.

According to KEN: “From the above salary structure, it is evident that Buhari would not have saved up to N20 million naira before his retirement but let’s say that he saved about N20 million naira, if you add his pension till date we can give him the benefit of the doubt that he may have saved another N30 million totaling N50 million naira.

“This figure is bloated and as far as we know, Buhari was / is not doing any business, which means that as a family man taking care of his family and all, he may not have even saved much but let’s use the figure all the same. So if Buhari , whom we know does not have any other business except playing politics has saved about N50 million naira till date, where did he get the money that runs into billions of naira he has used for his three consecutive presidential campaigns.

“At the barest minimum a presidential campaign which includes running the political party all year round and all over the country will cost about N800 million and we all know that Buhari has done this three times which puts the expenditure at the barest minimum amount of N2.4 billion naira.

Buhari think he is smart but I’ll have to tell him not to be so fast, he has refused to tell us where he got the money to run the campaigns because people will understand that either he stashed money away which he is now using or that someone is footing the bill for him and if so, people will understand that “there is no free money” as in, whoever that has been given him the money was / is making an investment.

So it is either of two things, either that Buhari carefully and quietly stashed some money away the time he was the governor, minister, head of state and PTF boss and now using same for his political ambition, after all he was boldly accused of the $2.8 billion that disappeared under his nose and watch as the oil minister in the 70’s that got Fela singing, regardless of how he is trying to wriggle out of it, our people got the saying that, “frog does not indulge is a broad daylight flight for nothing” and if it quacks like a duck, there is a chance that it is a duck.

Buhari wasn’t the only minister then and I know that not every minister was accused of such a staggering amount; something must have led to that accusation.

So it is either that the man played his “siphoning game well” and got away with it and today is using the loot to fund his political campaigns or that someone is investing in his political campaign and we know that no investor invest free or invest for nothing.

This is why Buhari and his supporters has remained mute on intimating us on how he got the money he has been using to run his presidential campaigns. They know that if they try to use “investors” as an excuse, people will want to know how those investors would be paid back if Buhari wins since he said he will not touch public fund and if they say that Buhari has been funding himself, people will want to know where he got the money, which business is accruing such staggering amount for him, thus in being smart by half, they all keep mute on this question and keeping mute simply means that Buhari have skeletons in his cupboard.

But one thing they forgot is that, people may be born at night but certainly not last night. For a man who has been singing like a canary as a “non corrupt” ambitious politician and now has deposited his saliva into his supporters tongue and has brought them on board singing the same tune sheepishly, it would have been the first duty of his to make public how his election campaign is funded.

The excerpt at the beginning of this article quoted IBB as telling Buhari that “Those who live in glass houses do not throw stones” when Buhari took a swipe at him that his administration was co-responsible in destroying the oil sector, Buhari did not accuse IBB of directly stealing or siphoning public fund, but in reply IBB went straight to hinting that Buhari indulged in such, I wished Buhari had took him on so we could hear a little bit more.

It is evident that Abacha’s government was corrupt and brutal and that Buhari worked under Abacha, and the most troubling part of someone who is claming to hate corruption is the defense Buhari mounted for Abacha saying that he was not corrupt, hear him:

“By Ibrahim Shuaibu, “The late military Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha, did not loot the national treasury contrary to the general impression, two military former heads of state have said. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, who ruled Nigeria between 1983 and 1985, and his successor, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, gave Abacha the clean bill in Kano yesterday after the rememberance prayers marking 10 years of the death of Abacha, who ruled between 1993 and 1998”

“That is there for a man claiming that he detests corruption and will fight it, does it make sense at all if a man who says he will fight corruption is seeing defending the same corruption. One thing is sure, Buhari and his apologists ain’t deceiving anyone, not one bit. Some of the shameless defenders of him like Nebukadineze who has said openly that Abacha was corrupt will not even cover his face in shame when the same Buhari he is defending and fighting and insulting anyone who disagrees that Buhari is not corrupt is himself defending the same Abacha that the “internet lawyer” Nebukadineze said is corrupt.

Ken added, ‘Talking about “internet lawyer”, soon forumites may consider contributing something for Nebu for his internet “lawyering” because it seems his office is now completely in the forum. Keeping Buhari and his apologists honest and civil!

Ezeana Igirigi Achusim, on this topic said, IBB,OBJ and others can make this same claim.

“Obasanjo and IBB can say the same thing. EFCC will not even bother with any one who touched a kobo of public funds. He should have, if true, say that he never took even a kobo. And that is not what I read him say. You could take Nbillions without touching a kobo. Could you imagine Obj or IBB touching any money? I don’t. If Buhari did not take any money, he should say so. This touching kobo is too technical for many.

Odudu Abasi, said, it is only the corrupt that fear Buhari presidency.

“Imo,Thank you. The truth will never be buried. No matter whichever way they argue against Buhari, the fact of the matter is that those who support corruption are corrupt; and they are the ones who fear a Buhari presidency.

“Of all Nigerian political players there are very few who come close to Buhari in honest intentions for the nation. The exclusionary political structure i.e. corruption; (excluding common and down-trodden Nigerians from even the tattered services provided by corrupt administrations created by the administrations of Ibrahim Babangida, Sanni Abacha, General Abubakar, Olusegun Obasonjo, Yar’Adua, and Goodluck Jonathan); tend to be what all fraudsters clamor for, in their criticisms of Buhari. Buhari ran the only honest government in Nigeria after independence. I challenge anyone who says otherwise to point to one administration that came close to Buhari’s.

He added, “We who can gleam the goodness which a government run under the Rule of Law can bring to the nation, must continue to insist on people with good track records of honesty to run our government. We must continue to voice our support for the likes of Buhari to become president; and for that matter, we must realize that there is only one Buhari thus far in the Nigerian political landscape. If we support him to win the presidency, many more Buharis will emerge; which is what Nigeria needs to stay peaceful, progressive and free from corruption, secessionist advocate, and fraudsters.

Rotimi Fashakin, said, ignore these nonentities on Buhari issue.
“My brother Emeka,Just ignore, that is my candid piece of advice.Medically, at certain age, senility sets in and people start to dramatize infantilism. The workers at old people’s homes know what they are facing! Some age gracefully but some some become more cantankerous as they cross certain threshold. You must just learn to ignore!

Emeka Madunagu, said, “It’s so shameful when an elderly man enjoys pouring scorn on others. The hatred you have for Buhari makes you to even wish him evil. I know in your heart, if you could, you would wish Buhari dead. It’s a shame!!! Shame!!! Shame!!!

Ezeana Igirigi Achusim, said, “Obasanjo and IBB can say the same thing.

Rotimi Fashakin, said, “In my culture, it is sacrilegious for an ancient to behave like a child, showing utter bellicosity in disposition. It is also unacceptable, in my culture, for a much younger bloke to show irreverence to an ancient, notwithstanding his utter truculence. On the predication of the foregoing, Sir, I can not answer you as a fool should be, though the Holy scriptures admonish that in proverbs 26 verse 5. A much younger adversary would have been a fairer game to deal with. Fare thee well.

Ezeana Igirigi Achusim, said, “Rotimi:Are you really a doctor? If you are, do you know where Buhari is right now and why? Let me tell you. He is overseas for a medical check up. He will not trust even you with his pet dog for medical care. Took it with him overseas.

“And let me tell you why you failed woefully in your last election outing. Your own brothers would not vote for you because they know you will be as bad their representative as you are a doctor. How many of your brothers have you treated?

Talking about senility, do you know the gossip among the nurses that you messed with? Use your imagination. I know you are scared of Ebola like any other Nigerian. Never mind that you are a doctor and should be in the forefront to stem the plague. Oh no. You are here foraging for appointment by Buhari. Shame on your young tail.

C. Ukachukwu, said, “Interesting. You heap invectives on Igirigi then you toss a bible passage as a reason you can’t take up any of his challenges or answer any of his simple, direct questions. We are paying attention. Shameful!

“One “old” man is whooping you young studs like Dick Tiger. Buhari needs a new army in that case.

HEN USA, said,”Most medical check-ups are required and not a matter of choice for the patience. It is not a luxury once required. When you go oversee for one, expect to be invited back for another. The Western medicine is based on science and you most monitor patients going into the future after treatment. This helps to contain any new developments and to collect data on the cure process. Every patient is a research subject because science wants to know how the medicine you were given is working so it could either be improved or certified as effective.

He, added, “Buhari is speaking the truth. He has never touched public Kobo. The reason is the public does not have any kobo. What he touched is public billions. These military generals do not touch kobo, they deal in billions. Why will he steal kobo when he can take billions with same effort?
